Common is a terrific artist; he was the one who popularized Mid-West Hip-Hop - the place that spawned recent, well-respected, popular acts such as  Lupe Fiasco, Black Milk, Rhymefest, Atmosphere, Brother Ali and, though declining in a sense, Kanye West and Eminem (I think Detox is gonna suck) - and popularized a soulful, introspective, AND lyricist game.
