The Playlist of Our Lives

Though we are not musically inclined, music is still in our minds. I can't think of a day where I do not listen to at least 20 songs a day. Heck, one of the main reasons why 3GM ever came to existence is music. We use it to converse, to interpret, and to apply to our everyday lives. From the crush hit "El Scorcho -Weezer" to our mellow "Atonment -The Roots" to our mafioso steelo track "Verbal Intercourse -Raekwon ft Nas", music is our way of expressing moods & emotions. We are not prejudice towards music, in fact we are all over the map...from Ortega's rock & alternative knowledge and Mj and my rap & hiphop knowledge, we combine to create a diverse music library. Reason why I'm writing this blogpost is because my 4 hours spent on perfecting my 30gb ipod upgrade from my dinky 8gb, and realizing how much music knowledge I gained since meeting the other two members of 3GM. It's scary...sometimes I actually anticipate the lonely bus rides just to have some quiet time to kick back and listen to a good album or two.

I guess I'll start our first Top 10 Lists with...

Top 10 Influential Songs (Personal)

1. "What They Do" -The Roots (Taking the path less traveled is key...that is why I "infinitly go against the grain".)

2. "Jammin" -Bob Marley (A simple yet meaningful song that's great to chill out and appreciate life to)

3. "Hello New World" -Clipse (My song of the future...as I embrace the good life...hopefully...)

4. "The Logical Song" -Supertramp (Questions the origin of your logic and what logic really is.)

5. "House of Cards" -Radiohead ( A great song that mellows me out and really makes me want to let loose and forget about my house of cards.)

6. "Can I Live" -Jay-z (Let the haters hate because I "rather live enormous than live dorment".)

7. "SpaceShip" -Kanye West ft. GLC & Consequence (Makes you face the reality that work suckin fucks but it does pay off sometimes..)

8. "Oh Momma" -Justin Nozuka (Brings a slight tear to my eye as I think about how important momma is to me)

9. "Uncertanties" -Matthew Santos (Speaks about uncertainties and the long road ahead...the world just seems so heavy)

10. "Otha Fish" -The Pharcyde (Great song to listen to if facing a post-breakup situation...does not apply to me but I'm sure I'd know what I'd be bumpin if it ever did.)

Another expression of life, I couldn't live without it.." -Hi-Tek

Experience The Pharcyde

Hello, I am MJ - the one member of this trio who had yet to make a post as a 'genius mind'. Better late than never I guess, no?
Let us talk hip hop: The Pharcyde has become one of my favourite hip hop groups. While the West coast was dominated by gangsta rap in the early 90s, courtesy of N.W.A and Too $hort, The Pharcyde managed to burst onto the scene in `92 sounding completely different than what was around them at the time. With their debut album: Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde, the quartet from Los Angeles provided an assortment of songs that captivated their audience. Backed with beautiful instrumentals and soulful samples, their use of the piano, horns, and drums augment their slick lyrical ability. These elements together resulted in a hip hop masterpiece. The album is incredibly versatile and showcases the storytelling abilities of the MCs. The Pharcyde tackle hilarious blunders ("Oh Shit"), marriage and prank phone calls ("4 Better Or 4 Worse"), driving as a minority ("Officer"), 'your mama' jokes ("Ya Mama"), heartbreak ("Passin' Me By" & "Otha Fish"), blazin' ("Pack The Pipe"), and just plain messing around ("Soul Flower", "On The DL", "I'm That Type Of Nigga", & "Return Of The B-Boy") within 56 minutes and 41 seconds - 11 songs and 5 skits. With its luscious production, enjoyable flows, and amusing lyrics, just kick back and enjoy a 'Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde'.
